William Morris Pearman

Master carpenter; founder, Pearman Funeral Home

1861 - 1922

A master carpenter and builder by trade, William Pearman founded Pearman Funeral Home in 1895. One of Bermuda’s oldest businesses, the funeral home is still run by the Pearman family and is a west-end institution.

William Pearman was a member of Oddfellows Lodges. He served as a foreman for the Walker Works at the Royal Naval Dockyard during the massive modernisation of the base in the early 20th century.

He was involved with Rev. Charles Vinton Monk in the labour struggles that arose over the appalling pay and conditions of imported Jamaican workers.

He was a trustee of the Manchester Unity Lodge, which he helped build, a member of the Hannibal Lodge and a founding member of the Abercorn Lodge.
